Lehman Ends Losing Streak with Tie Against Westlake

By Robert Doyen October 28, 2004

After a hard fought defensive struggle the Lobos tied the Westlake Chaparrals 0-0 as they try to build some momentum for next season.

The Lobos had a bit of a scare in the second quarter when QB Thomas Kellner had to come out of the game with a slight concussion.

"He took a big hit, and I could tell when he called the wrong play on the next down that something was wrong with him," said Coach Davis.

He was replaced by Anthony Crumley who finished the game at quarterback. Kellner received treatment for his concussion and is suffering no after-effects from the injury.

Thanks in part to the loss of their starting quarterback, the Lobos had a hard time moving the ball. Donnovick Green also struggled running in this game.

“On offense we didn’t execute very well, hence the tie,” said Davis.

The defense was another story. They held Westlake out of the end zone for the entire game thanks to a determined improvement in their tackling.

“Our defense played great. They made big stops all night,” said Davis, “Joseph Torrez and Jason Vavre had big hits all over the field.”

The game ended on a powerful defensive series for the Lobos. Westlake had the ball and was trying to get into scoring position, but the Lobos stopped them at the thirty yard line.

Lehman’s last game of the season comes next week against Vista Ridge-- a team they have already had a competitive game against this season.

The Lobos gave up two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to Vista Ridge that broke a 0-0 stalemate and they missed an opportunity to take the lead earlier in the game due to a dropped pass in the end zone.

To defeat Vista Ridge Davis knows that his team must put together a complete game on offense and on defense for the first time this year.

“Vista Ridge plays a pretty straight up game. We just need to work on perfecting what we do.”

Kickoff is set for six o’clock on Thursday at Vista Ridge.
